France has just become expensive. From September 2026, non-EU students pay sixteen times what they paid before, and exemptions are capped.
Read this before you budget. The increase applies to almost all non-EU students starting from the 2026/27 academic year. Students already enrolled are unaffected. Sixty percent of the available grants are reserved for priority disciplines: health, digital and AI, quantum, biotechnology, environment, energy, space, food, IT and communications.

From September 2026, €2,895 a year for a bachelor's and €3,941 for a master's. Before the change the same degrees cost €178 and €254. Students already enrolled keep the old rate.
Only for a minority. Exemptions are capped at no more than 10% of students, mostly scholarship holders and hardship cases. Sixty percent of the available grants are reserved for ten priority disciplines including health, AI, energy and biotechnology.
For some profiles, yes — €2,895 remains far below UK or US tuition, and priority-discipline applicants have a real grant route. But France is no longer one of the cheap options, and we will say so rather than let you find out at the fee invoice.
